About the Artist

I’m Steven McLean, a Scottish-born artist now living in California. I work in watercolour and oils, painting landscapes, architecture, animals, birds, and still life.

Growing up in Scotland gave me a lasting interest in its landscapes, castles, and historic buildings, and these subjects continue to feature in my work. I also enjoy painting animals and pets, where the character and personality of the subject are just as important as the painting itself.

Alongside my personal work, I also take on commissions, including pet portraits and other subjects. Whether I’m painting a landscape, an old building, or a much-loved pet, I aim to keep the work fresh, expressive, and focused on the subject rather than unnecessary detail.
